Fundraiser Appeal:Donate Now

    Types of donations:

  • 1. Regular Blood donation:

This is whole blood donation . The blood is extracted and collected in the bag in the most hygenic way following all ethical practices. Volume of 350 ml or 450 ml is taken from an individual. It is expected that a gap of minimum of 3 months is maintained between 2 consecutive donations .

  • 2. Platelet donation:

he process involves extracting the blood of around 100 ml in each cycle , and the same is put in a centrifuge to extract platelets. Rest of the blood is pushed back to the donor. This cycle is repeated to get platelets of around 250 ml. generally the entire process takes 1 hour max. The platelets are used in cases of thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) because of blood cancer, chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant treatment or infections like malaria, Dengue to avoid bleeding.

  • 3. Therapeutic:

The blood is removed from the body as part of treatment. This is done when the hemoglobin is increased, reducing the flow of blood in circulation. There is a tendency of increased blood pressure & clotting. The condition is called polycythemia. This blood is then disposed off.

  • 4. Autologous:

The individual who may need blood in a few days for an elective surgery or of a rare blood group may donate blood. This will be reserved for him only and transfused when needed before it expires.
